How US mobile rates compare with other parts of the world
This is an interesting round up piece on how US mobile data pricing plans with those in the UK and elsewhere. It states that more than half of US carrier revenue is from data. The UK cost is way lower than the of the US counterpart. The UK offering comes in cheaper by almost $1000 over the life of a two Year contract and it provides unlimited data. The article goes on to state ‘one of the factors cited in explaining the difference is regulatory policy. In the UK, companies are legally required to lease their networks to the competition at cost; this is not the case here in the US. Without this requirement, US carriers are protected from competitors, but they’re also spared from having to compete on price.’
